Ziro, Sept 5: Marking Teachers’ Day with a humanitarian initiative, the Arunachal Pradesh Technical Teachers Association (APTTA), along with affiliated organisations COSAAP, AIFPTO and AIFUCTO, organised a statewide voluntary blood donation drive across Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.
The initiative, led by APTTA president Bengia Taday and general secretary Dr Phurba Dorjee Philley, brought together teachers, faculty members and students from six government polytechnic colleges and one government engineering college across the state to contribute towards strengthening local blood reserves.
In Lower Subansiri district, Government Polytechnic College (GPC), Ziro, organised the blood donation camp in collaboration with the Blood Centre of Gyati Takka Zonal General Hospital (GTZGH), Ziro.
The camp was coordinated by GPC Ziro principal Dr D. Devarasiddappa and APTTA Ziro Unit coordinator Nani Chobing, with participation from teachers, staff members and students.
A total of 22 prospective donors volunteered and underwent health screening during the camp. Following the screening, 12 donors were found eligible and successfully donated blood.
The collection included six units of A-positive, two units of B-positive and four units of O-positive blood, contributing a total of 12 units to the hospital’s blood stocks. The donated blood is expected to strengthen the availability of blood for emergency and other medical requirements in the district.
Organisers said the initiative was aimed not only at supporting hospital blood reserves but also at encouraging a sense of civic responsibility, compassion and voluntary service among students and educators.
The APTTA leadership and the local organising team expressed gratitude to the donors, volunteers and medical team of GTZGH Ziro for their support in successfully conducting the Teachers’ Day blood donation drive.
