NAGAON, Sep 24: Three people were burnt to death and two others critically injured after an Arunachal Pradesh-registered vehicle caught fire following a collision with a streetlight pole in Assam’s Nagaon district.
The accident occurred at Kenapatty in Puranigudam when the vehicle bearing registration number AR 01 W 5107 was travelling from Arunachal Pradesh towards Guwahati.
According to preliminary information, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into a streetlight pole installed in the middle of the road. The impact was followed by a fire that engulfed the vehicle.
Three occupants were trapped inside the vehicle and died after being burnt in the fire, while two others sustained critical injuries.
The injured have been identified as Vikas Kumar and Sonu Kumar. Both were shifted to Guwahati for further treatment and are reportedly in critical condition.
The occupants were reportedly from Bihar. Preliminary information suggests that the three deceased persons had boarded the vehicle midway through the journey.
Police said the vehicle was owned by Vikas Kumar, while Sonu Kumar was driving at the time of the accident.
The police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the collision and the subsequent fire.
