Itanagar, April 8: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt Gen KT Parnaik, laid a wreath at the Jaswant Garh War Memorial on Wednesday, paying homage to the hero of the 1962 war, Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, and other martyrs of the Sino-Indian War.
Describing the memorial as a sacred symbol of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism, the Governor said it stands as a lasting reminder of the indomitable spirit of soldiers who laid down their lives in defence of the nation’s sovereignty. He expressed confidence that the site would continue to inspire future generations to serve the nation with dedication, honour, and selflessness.
The Governor commended all ranks of the IV Corps, particularly the 5 Mountain Division, for maintaining the memorial with professionalism and devotion. He also lauded the officers and jawans of the 46 Infantry Brigade for their vigilance, discipline, and commitment to duty.
Earlier, officials of the 24 Jat Regiment briefed the Governor on the upkeep of the memorial and the initiatives undertaken to preserve its legacy.
During the visit, the Governor interacted with ex-servicemen, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to the nation and encouraging them to maintain good health and continue serving society. He said their experience and values remain a guiding force for younger generations.
He also interacted with tourists at the memorial, urging them to reflect on the courage and sacrifices of soldiers. Emphasising that such visits go beyond sightseeing, he said they offer meaningful opportunities to connect with the nation’s history and honour its heroes.
Expressing satisfaction over the increasing number of visitors, especially youth, the Governor described the memorial as a living source of inspiration that instils patriotism, discipline, and pride, and urged all to carry forward the legacy of the martyrs.
