Arunachal minor lured through online relationship, taken to Rajasthan; accused arrested under POCSO Act

A minor girl missing from the Itanagar area since late December last year has been successfully rescued from Rajasthan, while the accused involved in the case has been arrested, police said.

According to a press note issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Capital Itanagar, a missing report was lodged at the Women Police Station (WPS), Itanagar, on December 30, 2025, regarding a 15-year-old girl who had been untraceable since December 27. In this connection, WPS Itanagar Case No. 84/25 was registered under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Following the registration of the case, a thorough investigation was launched under the close supervision of SDPO Itanagar Chera Saban and Officer-in-Charge of WPS Itanagar, Inspector Sonam Rina. The police team employed both human intelligence and technical inputs to trace the victim.

After sustained efforts, the minor was located and rescued from Banswara district in Rajasthan by a dedicated police team.

During investigation, the victim, in her statement recorded under relevant legal provisions, revealed that she had been lured into a relationship through the social media platform Snapchat by a 25-year-old man, who subsequently established a physical relationship with her.

Acting on the disclosure, the accused, identified as Dilawar Hussain (25), a resident of New Bus Stand area in Banswara, Rajasthan, was apprehended on April 9 from Dungarpur district with the assistance of local police.

The accused was produced before the Special Judge, POCSO Court, Dungarpur, who granted transit remand for his transfer to Arunachal Pradesh. He was brought to the state on April 11 for further legal proceedings and will be produced before the competent court shortly.

Meanwhile, the rescued minor has been provided necessary medical care and placed in a shelter home to ensure her safety and well-being.

The operation was led by Sub-Inspector Bamang Yakum, along with Constable Arun Singh, Constable Ogo Pertin, and Lady Constable Arty Degu. The Itanagar Capital Police commended the team for their professionalism and dedication in ensuring the safe rescue of the minor and the swift arrest of the accused.

Police have also appealed to parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s use of smartphones and social media platforms, citing a growing trend of online grooming and exploitation of minors. They advised maintaining close supervision, encouraging open communication, and ensuring responsible use of digital platforms.

Reiterating its commitment to the safety and protection of women and children, Capital Police urged the public to remain alert and promptly report any such incidents.
