ZIRO, October 1: National Voluntary Blood Donation Day was observed at the Blood Centre of Gyati Takka Zonal General Hospital (GTZGH), Ziro, with a voluntary blood donation camp organised by the Apatani Teachers Welfare Forum (ATWF) in collaboration with Mudo Tamo Memorial College (MTMC), Ziro, and the hospital’s Blood Centre.
The community-driven initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation, with 48 people registering as potential donors, including 22 males and 26 females. Following medical screening, 26 units of blood were successfully collected, comprising 15 units from male donors and 11 from female donors. A total of 22 participants were deferred after screening.
The collected blood units included five units of A positive, nine units of B positive, seven units of O positive and five units of AB positive blood groups.
The camp was organised under the leadership of ATWF President Nada Tagio and General Secretary Tadu Oppo. Mudo Dumi, Chairperson of MTMC Ziro, along with faculty members, students and community volunteers, also participated actively in the initiative.
The occasion also featured awards and felicitations recognising organisations that have contributed to the voluntary blood donation movement at the state and district levels. Under the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC) recognition, the 60th Battalion ITBP, Hapoli, and the Apatani Baptist Association (ABA) were felicitated among the leading organisations for participation and blood donation.
At the district level, recognition was given to the Apatani Teachers Welfare Forum, Mudo Tamo Memorial College Ziro, Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University (IGTAMSU) Ziro, and BRO 756 BRTF (Project Arunank).
The organisers said the programme reflected the growing spirit of voluntary blood donation in Lower Subansiri district. With messages such as “One Drop of Humanity” and “Give Blood, Save Lives,” the campaign sought to encourage greater community participation and contribute towards maintaining a safe and adequate blood supply in the region.
