Deomali, September 28, 2026: World Rabies Day 2026 was observed at Deomali on Monday with a focus on creating awareness about rabies prevention, responsible pet ownership and the importance of timely vaccination of domestic animals.
As part of the awareness programme, leaflets and pamphlets containing information on rabies prevention and control were distributed among attendees. The initiative aimed to spread awareness about preventive measures and encourage responsible practices among pet owners and the wider community.
Addressing pet dog owners and animal lovers, District Veterinary Officer (DVO) Dr. Arfila C. Tingkhatra highlighted the importance of responsible pet ownership, regular vaccination and community awareness in preventing the spread of rabies. She urged pet owners to ensure that their animals receive anti-rabies vaccinations on time and stressed the need for proper handling, care and management of pets.
Dr. Tingkhatra further emphasised that collective efforts involving pet owners, veterinary personnel and the community are essential to strengthening rabies prevention measures and moving closer towards a rabies-free future.
As part of the observance, 25 pet dogs were administered anti-rabies vaccines during the programme, reinforcing the importance of vaccination as a key preventive measure against the disease.
The programme underscored the shared responsibility of pet owners, veterinary professionals and the community in preventing rabies and safeguarding the health and well-being of both animals and people.
