ZIRO, September 30: The District Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee of Lower Subansiri District held its 23rd meeting at the District Secretariat in Ziro on Tuesday, bringing together law enforcement agencies, civil administration, paramilitary forces and community representatives to strengthen coordinated action against drug trafficking and substance abuse.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme along with Superintendent of Police Techi Hanyir. Officials from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), 60th Battalion ITBP, 138th Battalion CRPF, district drug enforcement authorities and departments including education, health, forestry and social welfare participated in the deliberations.

The meeting reviewed enforcement gaps, community outreach measures and mechanisms for improving coordination among different departments. The administration stressed that tackling the drug menace requires sustained enforcement as well as stronger involvement from educational institutions, community leaders and local organisations.

Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme called for a zero-tolerance approach towards drug trafficking while emphasising the need for coordinated action and rehabilitation support. He said law enforcement agencies would continue strict action against traffickers, while institutions and community leaders must play a key role in preventing young people from becoming vulnerable to substance abuse.

SP Techi Hanyir briefed the meeting on ongoing security and enforcement measures and urged residents and educational institutions to support efforts to identify and report suspicious activities. He said coordination among the police, central security forces and the Narcotics Control Bureau was being strengthened to monitor drug supply networks and persistent offenders.

The administration also sought greater participation at the grassroots level by engaging Zilla Parishad Members from Hari, Hija, Diibo, Tajang, Reru and Kalung circles to strengthen vigilance within their respective communities.

Heads of major government and private educational institutions across Lower Subansiri were also directed to strengthen campus monitoring, conduct targeted anti-drug awareness programmes and establish early intervention mechanisms for students who may require support.

The 23rd NCORD meeting reaffirmed the district administration’s focus on a coordinated approach involving enforcement, prevention, community participation, awareness and rehabilitation to address drug-related challenges across Lower Subansiri.
