YINGKIONG, October 2, 2026 — Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Yingkiong, to commemorate the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The programme highlighted the values, principles and contributions of the two national leaders.
As part of the observance, a peace march was organised, followed by floral tributes to the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri and a Ramdhun. The activities paid homage to the two leaders while reminding students of their enduring contributions to the nation.
Deputy Commissioner, Upper Siang, Dr. Ashok Tajo, joined the celebration and interacted with the students. Addressing the gathering, he encouraged students to incorporate the values and principles of Mahatma Gandhi into their daily lives and strive to become responsible and compassionate citizens. He also stressed the importance of education and proper career guidance and advised students to remain focused and sincere in their studies.
DDSE, Upper Siang, Duhon Tekseng, also addressed the gathering and urged students to remain sincere, disciplined and hardworking in their academic pursuits. Recalling the legacy of GHSS Yingkiong, which was established in 1958, he highlighted the achievements of its alumni across different fields and encouraged students to draw inspiration from their seniors and pursue their goals with dedication and perseverance.
Principal of GHSS Yingkiong, Lutni Perme, reflected on the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi and urged students to keep his teachings close to their hearts. He emphasised the values of truth, non-violence, simplicity and perseverance as guiding principles for young people as they move forward in life.
Teachers and students of GHSS Yingkiong also participated in the programme by delivering speeches on the life, ideals and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, adding an educational dimension to the Gandhi Jayanti observance.
