ZIRO, October 2, 2026 — Ziro observed Gandhi Jayanti with a series of community activities centred on cleanliness, civic responsibility and Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of service and dignity of labour. The programme was held under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme, APCS, with residents, students, officials and local leaders participating in the observance.
The day began with students taking part in Prabhat Pheries across Ziro town. The morning marches were organised under the direction of the Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE), Ziro, and marked the beginning of the district’s Gandhi Jayanti activities.
Following the morning marches, district officers, heads of departments, local leaders and residents gathered at the parking area near the Mahatma Gandhi statue to offer floral tributes and pay their respects to the Father of the Nation.
A special feature of the observance was the recognition of Safaimitras and other community members whose continued efforts contribute to public hygiene and community well-being. Under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme, the district administration organised a prize distribution ceremony to acknowledge their dedicated service.
The Gandhi Jayanti programme subsequently transitioned into a mass cleanliness drive across the district. Led by the Executive Engineer of Urban Development and Housing (EE UD&H), officials and residents worked together to clean government offices, schools, residential colonies, market areas and hospital premises.
Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme appreciated the strong public participation in the observance and stressed that the true spirit of Gandhi Jayanti lies in making cleanliness, civic responsibility, service and mutual respect part of everyday community life
