Gandhi Jayanti and International Day of Non-Violence Observed in Shi-Yomi District

TATO, October 2, 2026 — Gandhi Jayanti and the International Day of Non-Violence were observed in Shi-Yomi district with a day-long programme focused on cleanliness, healthy living, non-violence and responsible citizenship.

The District Administration, Shi-Yomi, in collaboration with the District Art & Culture Office, Urban & Development Department, District Sports Office and the Marathon Organising Committee, organised a marathon from Zero Point, Tato, followed by a Swachhata Bharat cleanliness drive. The activities highlighted the importance of maintaining a clean, healthy and drug-free society.

The day-long programme culminated in a Gandhi Jayanti and International Day of Non-Violence celebration at SFS School, Tato. Deputy Commissioner Manjunath R., IAS, attended the programme as Chief Guest, while Zilla Parishad Chairperson Tanya Rinya was the Guest of Honour. The Superintendent of Police and Heads of Offices also attended the programme.

The event featured a welcome song presented by students of SFS and VKV schools, followed by speeches highlighting the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, including truth, non-violence, cleanliness and self-reliance. Messages on these values were delivered by the Deputy Commissioner, Zilla Parishad Chairperson and other special invitees.

The Superintendent of Police also addressed the gathering on the growing concern of addiction and its adverse effects, particularly among young people. The SP subsequently administered the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge to teachers and students, encouraging them to contribute towards building a drug-free society.

Students presented patriotic performances during the programme, while prizes were distributed to winners and participants of the marathon race and other activities organised as part of the observance.

Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries stressed the continued relevance of Gandhian values in contemporary society and called upon young people to uphold peace, discipline, cleanliness, self-reliance and responsible citizenship.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Circle Officer, Tato, Er. Yapi Loya.
