Governor Calls for Greater Community Participation in Arunachal Pradesh Conservation Efforts

ITANAGAR, October 1: Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Head of Forest Force (HoFF) Santosh Kumar called on the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt Gen KT Parnaik, at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar, on October 1, 2026, and discussed measures to strengthen conservation and environmental protection in the state.

The meeting focused on conservation of Arunachal Pradesh’s rich flora and fauna, protection of its unique biodiversity, and initiatives aimed at enhancing greenery and maintaining ecological balance in urban areas.

The Governor highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s vast forest cover, rich biodiversity and indigenous traditions, stressing the state’s responsibility towards environmental stewardship. He said development and environmental protection can progress together, with economic growth, infrastructure development and improved quality of life pursued while preserving and sustainably utilising the state’s natural resources.

The Governor advised the PCCF and the Forest Department to intensify public awareness campaigns and promote greater community participation in conservation initiatives that have sustained local communities for generations. He also called for messages that encourage people, particularly the youth, to take pride in protecting Arunachal Pradesh’s natural heritage.

He emphasised the importance of drawing upon cultural values while adopting sustainable development practices to build a greener, healthier and more resilient future for the state.

Santosh Kumar, who recently assumed charge as PCCF and HoFF, assured the Governor of his commitment to strengthening conservation efforts across Arunachal Pradesh. He said the Forest Department would focus on improving green cover, protecting wildlife habitats and promoting sustainable environmental practices through active participation of local communities.
